Arbonne - Pure Vibrance - Shampoo and Conditioner

Saturday, 31 May 2014

Hello everyone - I've got a totally different post for you today - pretty much conflicting with the name of the blog, but hey - sometimes it's nice to mix it up a bit! I hope you find it interesting!

So, I dye my hair.  Quite a bright shade of red.  I love my hair colour after I've had it coloured, but I am always annoyed at how quickly the colour fades, therefore I'm constantly on the hunt for a shampoo and conditioner that promises to keep the vibrancy of my colour... and up until now I've never really quite found anything that hasn't had me reaching for the hair dye again after three weeks or so.

But now I think I've cracked it!  Hooray!  Anyway, I'm so excited about this that I thought I'd buck the general nail art theme and do a little post about what I've been using with some before and after shots.  The product I've been using is Pure Vibrance from Arbonne.  This product came with the promise of being "clinically shown to retain 93% of hair colour after 20 washes in both single and double process", so I thought; "really though?  REALLY?  Even with a bright red colour in my hair?" and was basically all set out to prove it wrong. (Obstructive, much?  Haha!)

There are three products that I've tried, the Shampoo, Conditioner and also a Hair Mask treatment.  All these products have been made using botanical ingredients only, so they don't contain any parabens or mineral oils which are the nasties that you generally get in most high street brands like Pantene or L'Oreal.

First off, let me tell you about the Shampoo and Conditioner.

So, as you can see, formula looks pretty similar to most shampoos - and is a nice creamy consistency so applies really well to your hair.  You don't really need to use loads either, it spreads pretty easily.  The shampoo and conditioner both have a really lovely fragrance too, which is an added bonus.

These products contain the following ingredients:

  • Rice extract protects and enhances hair colour, while providing flexibility and strength to hair to help reduce breakage.
  • Artichoke leaf extract preserves the integrity of the hair fibre and maintains shine.
  • Hawaiian white ginger root extract conditions, repairs and strengthens damaged hair.
  • White tea leaf extract protects hair against environmental stresses.
  • Sage leaf extract leaves hair soft and shiny.

So; off we go!  I normally wash my hair 3-4 times a week, and generally after about two weeks my colour has usually faded considerably.  I've taken a photo every week over the last 6 weeks of my hair to demonstrate. (Erm, surprisingly difficult to take photos of my hair rather than of my hands!! So don't laugh too much!)

So, this was the first wash after I had dyed my hair.  Usually the amount of colour that comes out in the first wash is verging on ridiculous / murder scene, but I was pretty amazed that barely any colour came out in the first wash at all.  My hair did feel really smooth and silky, and had a lovely shine.

Onto week two.  So now we are 5 washes in, still looking good, right?  Again, barely nothing coming out colour wise when I'm washing.

Week three, 9 washes in.  This was the day after I washed it so my hairs a little messier (not a big fan of brushing my hair, me!), but as you can see, colour still looking good.

Week four; 12 washes in - only thing that's letting my hair down is I've got some roots coming through now, but the red remains bright!  In all honesty, I'd have probably dyed it already by now, but the colour is still lovely and bright so there wasn't a need.

Week five - 16 washes in.  It was a pretty gloomy day so my hair does look a little darker (I've tried to remain consistent in taking photos in the same place each time but sometimes the daylight lets me down!) but looking lovely and shiny and colour still looking good...

Now, onto week 6, 20 washes in - I think you'll agree really the only issue I've got to contend with now is that I've got some roots, but to be honest I reckon I could maybe go a couple of weeks or so before hitting the dye, as the colour is still looking really nice and vibrant, and look how shiny my hair is too - happy!  Obviously, the colour has changed a little, but nothing in comparison to what I'd normally be looking like after 6 weeks.

So, in addition to this, I also tried out the Pure Vibrance Revitalizing Mask.  This is a conditioning treatment that you don't need to use every wash, maybe one a week/fortnight.  I've used this three times over the last six weeks.  As you can imagine, using a harsh dye on my hair AND constantly straightening my hair isn't particularly great for the condition of my hair, so a little treat for the old wig is a definite must!

What I tend to do is dampen my hair a bit, and then chuck on the hair mask (again, it spreads pretty well, you don't need loads), leave it on for a couple of hours, before shampooing and conditioning.  You don't need to leave it on this long really, the directions say 3-4 minutes, but y'know.  I just prefer to do hair masks for TIME.

Now, I've used tons of hair masks in my time (Philip Kingsley Elasticizer used to be my hair mask of choice) but this one is the best one I've ever tried, by flipping miles.  No kidding.  I had to stop myself from asking random strangers to feel my hair as it was so ridiculously soft and shiny and just generally lovely.  Even when I was drying and straightening my hair it just felt so much better, the change in how my hair felt after the first time I tried this was ridiculous.

I took these photos straight after drying my hair so this isn't in natural light, but look at the shine!  A friend of mine who has hair extensions sewn in has also tried this and she had people asking if she'd had her extensions replaced, as they looked so (literally) revitalised after she'd tried this out.

So, anyway, I'm sure you can tell I'm pretty impressed with this stuff!  Obviously, the colour has changed slightly (I've washed it 20 times though!) but it's still looking really bright and basically, vibrant.

So, how do you get your hands on this good stuff I hear you ask?  Well, Arbonne sells in the UK, US, Canada and Australia

I've been using these products for 6 weeks and I'd say I'm nearly half way through the shampoo and conditioner, so I'd say (also bear in mind how often you do wash your hair) but based on 3-4 times a week, I think you'll get a good 10-12 weeks out of these products, obviously more if you wash you don't wash your hair as often. The mask will probably last a good 6 months or so, dependent on how often you use it (I've been going for once a week and I've got loads left).

Now, it isn't cheap, but then something that actually works never normally is (!) however bearing in mind how long this is likely to last, I've worked out a comparative cost per month.  Weighing this up on needing to dye my hair far less (which in itself will also be less damaging for my hair).

Original Sugar Nail Adornments

Friday, 30 May 2014

Hello!  Remember a couple of weeks ago I showed you the really lovely nail adornments you can get from Original Sugar?  Well I've got another pretty to show you today.  Check out the BLING!

Again, this was curved really nicely to fit properly onto the shape of my nail, and wowzers at the sparkle.  I decided to go bright and polka dotty and over the top for this manicure and it definitely drew a lot of attention.  I always secure nail adornments onto my nails with a bit of nail glue, as they last longer then, but they will stay secure with top coat most of the time.  If you use nail glue, you can be careful and remove using a cotton bud and nail polish remover and you can reuse them again and again - great stuff.

Whilst I've got quite into using all kinds of colours on my gradients I decided to use a mixture of pink, peach, white and turquoise as a base.  I then did a mish-mash of designs - some flowers, some polka dots and then finished up with some glitter...
