Half-moon leopard print

Saturday, 31 August 2013

I've done quite a few leopard print manicures, mainly using very much non-animal polish colours, so for this manicure I decided to stick to beige and brown.  I used a base coat of Barry M Lychee from their Gelly Collection.

I then used Sinful Colors Nirvana as the brown spots and 2True Black to complete the leopardy-look.  I decided to do this as a half-moon pattern on the tips of my nails, just to mix it up a bit. If you fancy recreating some leopard print, my tutorial is here.

Inspired by my bakeware...

Friday, 30 August 2013

Hello!  I've got a bright and sunny gradient for you today!  I decided to go for a really vibrant red and orange theme...

Whilst I was pondering what I was going to do to jazz my gradient up I realised I had created nails to match my bakeware by complete accident, hehehe!

Anyway... onto the jazzed up version.  I decided to use zig-zag shaped nail guides to place a black stripe down the side of each nail.  I then used black and white polish and a dotting tool to add loads of little dots to the pattern.

This was really just a make up as you go along pattern but it worked out pretty well!

August Tri-Polish Challenge - Day 4

Thursday, 29 August 2013

Hello!  It's the last day of this months tri-polish challenge, hosted by the fabulous Debbie Crumpet! The idea behind this challenge is that three colours are chosen for that month, and you have to pick a polish from your stash for each colour, and stick to those specific polishes for the challenge, which involves four manicures, posted the last two Tuesdays and Thursdays of the month.  (You also have free use of black/white/silver/ gold and glitter toppers).

So, the colours for this month are RED, YELLOW and GREEN.  I have decided to go BRIGHT, and whip out the NEONS, so I've gone for Misa - Six Pack Summer for my RED, (this is verging on an orange shade, but it was the nearest neon red I had!), Maquillage BLVD - Yield for my YELLOW (This is seriously the best neon yellow EVER) and Island Girl - Sugar Cane for my GREEN.  I love these colours, they are so bright and summery!

So for my first manicure I decided to go down the good ol' gradient route, topped off with some white polka dots and a cute little cherry diamante.  For my second manicure I kept it pretty simple with bright stripy nails separated with some black dots.  On Tuesday, I went for some mixed up gradients, stripes and polka dots and for the last day today I've gone for some more polka dots.

This manicure was so easy to do, but looks really effective.  I love white and black dots together and they stand out great with the neon polishes.

So, that's another month over!  And here's a round up of all my manicures... which one is your favourite?

Etude House - 2013 Summer Glitters

Wednesday, 28 August 2013

Hello!  I've got some more glittery goodness from Etude House to show you today.  This is a Korean brand that is pretty easy to hunt down on eBay or Amazon, and they do some really lovely polishes.  The other day I showed your their Matte Sand Glitters and today I've got their Summer Glitter collection to show you today; four polishes, which are: Coral Party, Cotton Candy Kiss, Dragon Fruit Cocktail and Waves Play.

First up we have Coral Party.  Oh my gosh!  I love this!  This is a clear base full of yellow, orange and pink glitter, alongside some tiny holographic micro-glitter.  I put two coats over a orange/red base and it looks lovely.

Next we have Cotton Candy Kiss.  I put this over a lilac and that was definitely the right choice!  Look how cute and girly it looks.  There's little heart shapes in there amongst all the glitter and they look really cute too.

Next we have Dragon Fruit Cocktail.  I'm afraid I haven't really done this one much justice... I think the base colour I've chosen is TOTALLY WRONG.  So anyway, don't put this over a pale lemon base, it's too pale to really pop out the tiny baby pink and white bits of glitter.  I think I might try this over a cerise base instead.  Anyway, this one is chock full of glitter too, and this is two coats.

Finally we have Wave Play.  This is a clear base full of white bar, circle, square and micro glitter, plus some large round blue pieces.  This reminds me quite a bit of the recent 17 Graffiti range, and the Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots, but without the black glitter.  It's pretty cute, I'm not that bothered about the large blue circles, but since they did require a bit of fishing, you could probably use this as a topper and miss those pieces out.

So, what do you think?  I really like these glitters, they are pretty unusual and a good bargain too, win!  I'd say Coral Party is definitely my favourite.  All of these polishes have an excellent polish to glitter ratio, so you only need two coats, maximum for a full-on sparkle party on your fingers!
