I've been working with Salons Direct to come up with some nail art and tutorials using China Glaze nail polish and today I've used Highlight of My Summer, Too Yacht To Handle and Towel Boy Toy to create a gradient over some striping tape.
So for this manicure, you will need:
- White polish
- Striping tape
- Three colours for your gradient (I've used Highlight of My Summer, Too Yacht To Handle and Towel Boy Toy)
- Make up sponge (dampened)
- Cotton buds and nail polish remover (for tidy up)
- Top coat
- Nail charm/adornment if required
Start by painting your nails a white base colour. You need to let this dry completely.
Then use striping tape to position onto your nails. I've gone for a mixture of diagonal and straight patterns, but do whatever you feel you want here. It's easier if you've pre-cut the striping tape so you can just then put the pieces onto your nails, rather than try to cut them as you go along.
Use a make up sponge and create a gradient pattern over your nails. (If you need some tips here, I did a gradient tutorial a while ago). I've gone for a mixture of directions just to mix it up a bit.
This should dry pretty quickly, but once you've finished sponging, leave it five-ten minutes, and then quickly rip off your striping tape.
Now, apply a top coat (be careful not to drag too hard over your nails, otherwise this will smudge your design).
Use cotton buds and nail polish remover to remove the polish that's on your fingers.
And finish with a final layer of top coat. I've added a little flower onto one of my nails just to finish it off nicely.
And there you go, tape mani, done!
Anyway, I hope you've found this tutorial useful! If you do give this a go, please feel free to share with me on my facebook page.
