Rimmel Metal Rush Swatches

Friday, 8 March 2013

Oooh, I've got some pretty swatches to show you today...  This is the Metal Rush collection from Rimmel.  Rimmel is another brand I really love, because it's really well priced (these are £3.99 each) and they always have lovely fat brushes on their polishes.

I know these polishes have been out a while but they hadn't really jumped out at me before, but yesterday they caught me eye!  And I am so glad they did, these polishes are ridiculously duochrome, the bottle does not lie!

There are four colours in this collection;  Royale Blue, Gold Save The Queen, Purple Reign and Pearly Queen.  As an overall, these polishes are lovely, I love the fat brushes, however because of the finish on the polish, you do have to be careful to not get a streaky effect.  These polishes dry very quickly too, which is great.

First up is Royale Blue.  OMG, I FLIPPING LOVE THIS!!!  These pictures really do not do the duochrome goodness justice.  The polish looks a steely grey in some lights, sometimes it's blue, sometimes it's purple, sometimes it's green.  LOVE.

This was two coats of Royale Blue.

Next we have Gold Save The Queen.  This was probably the least exciting out of the collection for me, mainly because I already have loads of bronze/gold/copper type polishes and it isn't really my favourite colour.  However, this polish is lovely anyway.

This hasn't got quite as dramatic an effect as Royal Blue, it's more a subtle shimmer of the polish changing from a copper gold, so a pinky shade of gold when you tilt your nails.  This was two coats.

Here is Pearly Queen.  Now I would say this polish is definitely for layering, rather than wearing on your naked nail.  I tried a couple of coats over my bare nail and it just wasn't going to look nice, so I decided to stick to a similar tone to the actual polish and go for a grey base coat of Kiko 329 which is a solid pale grey colour.

This was 2 coats of Pearly Queen over the grey Kiko.  I think this would look really nice over black too.  This wavers between a green and a pink shimmer, very pretty.

And finally, this is Purple Reign.  This is beautiful as well.  The polish is a purpley / red type shade, but has tones of gold and pink when you tip your nails in the light.

This is two coats of Purple Reign, so again, very opaque and look at the shimmer!

So, what do you think?  I wish I could get the actual SHIMMERY GOODNESS across in these photos, so if you can imagine that they are actually considerably nicer than these pictures, that's how lovely these polishes are.  I think Royale Blue is my favourite, but I will be interested to see Pearly Queen layered over some different colours.

  1. Great swatches Claire. Do you think these polishes would be good for stamping? :)

    1. I reckon Purple Reign and Royale Blue would be, as they were more opaque after one coat than the others. I wonder if the duo chrome would stay with the stamping? I hope so! Get them!
