Day 30: Inspired by a TUTORIAL (30 Day Challenge)

Sunday, 30 September 2012

Last day!  Congratulations to everyone for making it to the end, and special thanks to Polished Criminails for organising this!  It has been fun, but quite exhausting!

For "Inspired by a Tutorial" I decided to give flamingo nails a go.  I saw a tutorial here and thought they looked really cute.

I painted my nails with a mint green base (and a yellow accent nail) and used a coral pink and athin paintbrush to paint on the flamingos body.  I then used dotting tools to create the eyes and beak, and a small brush to paint on the lighter pink shade at the bottom of the body.  This was really, really simple, and looks so cute.  I am definitely going to try it again another time.

Day 29: Inspired by the SUPERNATURAL (30 Day Challenge)

Saturday, 29 September 2012

For today, I decided to do a fairly straightforward manicure for "Inspired by the Supernatural".  I painted all my nails a base coat of Kiko Black, and then did a couple of accent nails on each hand using OPI Nicki Minaj Metallic 4 Life Nail Lacquer and a red and black Angelica Glitter, which is a really cheap brand that is sold in Primark, but goes on really thick.

I then painted the white ghost faces onto my nails using Collection 2000 white, and then dotted on black eyes and mouth with a dotting tool, then stuck on red diamantes onto the eyes to make the ghosties look more evil.

Born Pretty Store Discount available here!

Friday, 28 September 2012

Just a quick post to say that the fabulous people at Born Pretty Store have given me a discount code to put on my blog, which will give you all 10% off your purchases.  It should be showing in the sidebar on the right now.  They have some pretty cool nail art accessories going on there, and it is free worldwide shipping, so go and take a look.  I recently bought some studs from here, which I used on this post.

Day 28: Inspired by a FLAG (30 Day Challenge)

I haven't tried doing a USA flag based mani before, so I thought I'd give it a go.

I painted my nails with a basecoat of Collection 2000 white, and left that to dry thoroughly. I then used striping tape to section off my nails with stripes and blocks, and then painted a red polish, and a blue polish over this.

I left this to dry, then carefully removed the tape, and then rather than freehand on the stars, I had some stickers that I'd figure would do the trick instead, so I placed them on the blue sections on my mani.

Day 27: Inspired by ARTWORK (30 Day Challenge)

Thursday, 27 September 2012

I really enjoyed today's challenge, inspired by ARTWORK.  I decided to do my manicure by on Damien Hirst's work which I have seen on a few occasions at the Tate and I really like it (not so much the dead animals preseved in formaldehyde though!).  I like the spot paintings especially, and his butterfly work.  For more examples of his work, you can visit http://www.damienhirst.com/.  All examples of his work below are copyright of this website.

The artwork I have used as inspiration for this manicure are:

Zearalenone-BSA Conjugate, 2001

Ceftriaxone, 2010

Spot Painting, 1986

Love-In, 2008

All You Need is Love, 2001

For the Love of God, 2007

So, my manicure.  I painted my nails with a white base for the spotted nails, and then used a random colour mix of about 12 different colours and using a dotter, put them on in a random order.

To represent the diamond encrusted skull, I did a diamante encrusted nail on each hand.  I also did a couple of nails with a heart pattern, and a couple solid green and red, and then used butterfly stickers on those nails.

Day 26: Inspired by a PATTERN (30 Day Challenge)

Wednesday, 26 September 2012

For todays challenge, I decided to do a stripey manicure, inspired by this pattern:

I did a basecoat of white, and then used striping tape to section off and paint the lighter colour stripes, and then very carefully with a thin paintbrush I painted on the darker stripes (steady hand required!).  I am really pleased with how this turned out, but good god, it took berluddy ages!

Day 25: Inspired by FASHION (30 Day Challenge)

Tuesday, 25 September 2012

I have to admit, I wouldn't describe myself as a fashion know-it-all in any way whatsoever, if anything, I tend to look at new trends, announce they are horrible and then end up wearing them about 6 months after everyone else, so an "inspired by fashion" manicure was difficult to come up with ideas.  Anyway, I decided to go with some studs, glequins, small beads and some dark polish tones (soooooo Autumn 2012 darling! -  you heard it here first!*).

The polishes I used for this mani were:

Deep Red: Nails Inc Victoria
Purple: Nails Inc Duchess Street
Red: Nails Inc The Vale
Blue: Nails Inc Denim
Grey: Nails Inc Berkeley Square

I used some caviar beads and placed them on my nails in a polka dot pattern, and in lines.  I am clearly mental as this took forever and was so blimmin' fiddly!  I put some studs on (I properly love these).  I bought these recently from Born Pretty Store and was itching to try them out.  Hang fire too, as I have a 10% discount code for them coming up soon.  The "glequins" are a present from one of my lovely friends V, and also, I hadn't tried those out yet either, so I was keen to give these a go.

Anyway, my interpretation of FASHION.
