Gold, Black and White Fishtail Manicure

Sunday, 28 October 2012

Today I thought I'd have another go at a fishtail manicure.  I really love these, they are so easy to do and look pretty ace.  I decided to do a few fishtail nails, and then some sparkley gold nails too.  The important part for the fishtail manicure is to pick polishes that are pretty opaque after one coat, otherwise you'll have to keep going over and over, and there's a chance of a gloopy mess going on if you aren't careful.  Also pick colours that are quite contrasting, so you can see the effect better.

I decided to use the following colours:

Collection 2000 White
China Glaze Smoke and Ashes
Barry M Gold Foil

I painted my nails a base coat of China Glaze Smoke and Ashes (this has some lovely green specks in it, which you can see much better in this post).  Then paint a diagonal line in one direction using your second colour, and a diagonal line opposite this using your third colour, as shown below.

Don't worry too much about how it looks at the moment, as it will start to take shape pretty soon.  Also, you'll probably get quite a bit of polish over your fingers, but that can be cleaned up afterwards.  Continue alternating your colours painting diagoneal lines, leaving a small gap of the previous colour there.  You can see below a few stroke in that it's starting to look like a fishtail pattern.

Keep going until you reach the tips of your nails, tidy up around your nails with a cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover, and then top coat.  Job done!  The gold glittery nails I did a basecoat of Barry M Gold Foil, then a couple of coats of China Glaze Blonde Bombshell, then a couple of coats of Milani Gold Glitter, to make it really pop out.  And there you go, fishtail braid manicure is completed!
