Checkerboard Nails

I think I've already demonstrated that I am a massive fan of the striping tape, but I thought I'd demonstrate how you can do really fiddly things with it if you have the time or inclination to sit and tape all your fingers up.  I decided to have a go at checkerboard-ish nails.
They didn't go quite to plan as I was a bit impatient in letting the original basecoat dry before putting on three thousand metres of striping tape, so it has ripped some of the original colour off but you can't really see that, so I think they still look pretty cool.

I painted my nails a light pink basecoat of Collection Candy Floss and then I used a long piece of striping tape and wrapped it round and round horizontally on my nail, to save having to cut loads of separate pieces.  I then did cut strips for the vertical stripes and positioned them on my nails.  Once they were all in place (eleventy billion hours later) I used a dotting tool to dot on white (Collection White), Black (Collection Black) and a bright pink (Collection Siren) in diagonal patterns.  Some of these did seep through a bit as I was losing patience a bit!  Once they were dry, I carefully peeled off the tape (I find sometimes using tweezers to grab the tape to peel it off helps) and then top coat, and checkerboard nails, done!
