Day 5: BLUE (30 Day Challenge)

Wednesday, 5 September 2012

Todays colour challenge is BLUE.  My favourite blue is Kiko 336, it's a really rich bright blue, one of those colours I'd been searching for ages to get and kept just missing the spot, until I found this.  I decided to bling it up with some loose glitter also.

In order to get the loose glitter on, this is the method I use.  I got a load of loose sparkly glitters from eBay really cheap a while ago; and decided to pick out two blue glitters to use for this.  They come in quite small pots, and you have to be careful not to open them with too much force, or drop them, unless you want a glitter explosion.  (I have never done this, oh no!).

Then, to apply the glitter, I do my base coat of colour, then once that has dried I put some glitter just at the base of my nail, apply the next coat of colour and then blow gently up my nail, so that it spreads out, but most stays around the bottom of the nail, so it's kind of like a gradient effect.  Make sure you move the pot of glitter out of the way when you blow on your nail too!

I leave it a few minutes to dry, then to remove the loose glitter that hasn't stuck to my nails, I just run my hands under the tap, and it washes away.  Then a clear top coat to finish.

This mani came out really sparkly, but it was difficult to photograph to get the sparkle and the right colour showing at the same time.  I usually take my pictures in daylight with a white background, and this seemed to make the glitter less noticeable and more flat; but did capture the richness of the blue.

You can see the sparkle a lot better when I took the pictures under the lights in my kitchen:

And as a bonus, The Machine decided to come for a nosy, and I decided to include him as he is sticking with theme and wearing a blue collar.

    1. Hehe, it's a pleasure! I have attempted to dip or splodge it on in the past and this is so much easier!
